What the heck is an ARPG?

ARPGs, or art roleplaying games, are roleplaying games played by creating art (drawing, writing, etc.)! In many cases these games are centered around closed species, but not always. By playing these games, you can collect and level characters, earn rewards, and aid in the worldbuilding of the game!

 

Some Basic Terms

• ARPG - An abbreviation for art roleplaying game.

• Starter - A group owned Marten, sort of like an NPC (non-playable character).

• Import - A designed Marten that has been approved and uploaded to the masterlist. This upload has all of the information for the Marten, including genetics, applied items, and achievements.

• Geno - A shortened version of "genotype". Genotypes show the genetics of your Marten and determines what they will look like (base color, markings, etc.)

• Slot/Breeding Permission - A slot/breeding permission is the term used to show how many times a Marten is able to breed. Slots can be traded, sold, or gifted and allow players to breed their Martens with each other.

• EXP - An abbreviation for Experience Points. This is Marten Vale's point system, assigned to literature and art, which allows your character to level up and earn rewards!

 

So how do you get a Marten?

Adoption Center [NEEDS LINK]

• One of the best ways to jump into the game for beginners! The adoption center offers genos (and premade designs when they're available) once per account. These are simple, free characters that can help you learn the game without being too overwhelmed by their design.

Member Advertisements [NEEDS LINK]

• Group members may be selling uploaded Martens or genos in the advertisements folder, or via the "For Sale" channel on our Discord [NEEDS LINK]. This is usually the second easiest way to obtain a character!

Semi-Custom Sales

• Occasionally, the group will hold Semi-Custom sales which allow you to purchase Semi-Custom Scrolls of various rarities. These scrolls let you choose your Marten's base, markings, and more.

Group Events

• Mystery genos and pre-designs imports may sometimes show up as part of a group event! These events may also include Semi-Custom scrolls.
